Girl with a Curl
Hearing your child cry is the pits. BUT...hearing your child cry, knowing that you have to wait 5, 10, 20 minutes before going in to soothe her is the pits with a dose of poo poo on top.
Such were the initial days of so-called sleep training in our house. We chose to follow Dr. Richard Ferber's (controversial) cry-it-out method, and although we've learned our lesson on claiming we're in the clear when it comes to baby things, we can definitively say that Liana has truly come a long way since the days of double swaddles, noise machines and endless bouncing. Even just eliminating those elements from her nighttime ritual has been worth enduring the tears. In general, since the start of sleep training about two weeks ago, Liana is now sleeping about 10-11 hours at night (getting up once at 5am to nurse) and her daytime naps seem to be improving as well. In short, we are thankful for her progress. Who knows, maybe it was all that reading of "Your Baby's First Year" that Liana has been doing in her free time. ;-) Next challenge...teething.
Here is a cute photo of Lia, and whenever I see it, I am reminded of the following silly poem/nursery rhyme by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
Liana, of course, is very good indeed. :-)
There was a little girl,
Who had a little curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was very good indeed,
But when she was bad she was horrid.

wow, this last picture of Lia is perfect, love those big cheeks.
Ah Ferber. Everyone I know who has used it tells a story like "He/She cried for 45 minutes the first night, then never again". Well, it never worked quite that well for us, though it definitely helped quite a bit.
